The Best Vegetables to Aid Weight Loss

Have we ever considered which vegetables are the best as an aid to weight loss? Are some more effective than others, and can they all be beneficial to weight loss?

Normally the best vegetables to promote diet are those which are high in fibre, low-calorie and nutrient rich.

Fresh Leafy Green Vegetables

Leafy green vegetables such as cabbage, spinach, sprouts, lettuce, watercress and kale are excellent examples. Most of these examples are extremely low in calories, are rich in vitamins A and C and have very high fibre content. This makes them an ideal dieting food, in fact many of them can create a calorie deficit, which means that our body disposes of more calories in the digestion than it absorbs by consuming them.

Vegetables with High Water Content

Another option of the best vegetables ideal to help promote dieting, consist of any vegetable with a high level of water content. The best examples are onions, tomatoes, mushrooms, cucumbers, squash, zucchini and eggplant. By eating plenty of vegetables with high water content, we will be adding to our daily water intake. We will also be keeping our body well hydrated as well as helping digestion and adding extra vitamins and minerals to our diet plus giving our weight loss a boost.

High-Protein Legumes

Although technically legumes are not a vegetable, they are one of the best choices for losing weight. Most of us use the term beans rather than legumes, and they are an excellent dieting food. They are an asset to any diet because they contain protein and fibre. They are low in calories and provide lots of energy. Some of the best beans for weight loss, bearing in mind fat and calorie content are: haricot beans, black beans, chilli beans, red beans, lentils and kidney beans.

When we consider all the benefits vegetables add to our weight loss programme, we realise that eating any vegetable is better than eating none at all. Vegetables have so much to offer nutritionally and have the advantage adding so much texture and variety to the foods that we eat. If our aim is to lose weight quickly and easily, by the addition of more delicious vegetables to our eating plan, we are more likely to achieve success.
